Moderator's Visit, November 2008

During the 19th and 20th November 2008, as part of his visit to the Presbytery of England, the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, the Right Reverend David Lunan and his wife, Maggie, came to visit our Church. After lunch and a tour of the East of the Island, David and Maggie were entertained to tea at Government House by the Governor of Jersey, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway and his wife, Valerie, who had visited St. Columba's earlier in the year. In the evening, the Moderator met the Kirk Session and then preached the sermon at a special service.

Afterwards, he met members of the congregation and also leaders of other Christian denominations in Jersey.

On the morning of the 20th, the Moderator and his wife were invited to breakfast at the Pomme D'Or hotel by the Anglican Dean of Jersey. the Very Rev Bob Key.

Prior to going on a short tour of the west of the Island, the Moderator paid a visit to the house of Mrs Roselle Baker, our longest serving active member, who joined the congregation in 1936 and remained in Jersey during the German Occupation of World War 2. She was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years.
